Seasons Greetings from Bermuda and The Reefs
Greetings from Bermuda!
It's been another great year at The Reefs so we wanted to provide our friends and past guests a little recap.
First, let's give some updates on what's been happening with some of our staff! Shanae from the front desk and Medardo from maintenance both welcomed new babies to the island, and Nadine in reservations completed her nursing degree - but don't worry, she's still planning on staying with us at The Reefs! Rochelle, our Club Manager, is getting married over the holidays and we wish her the very best and congratulations. Martin Grznar from the dining room continued his mountain climbing treks this winter by climbing a mountain on the remote island of Camiguin in the Philippines. In previous years, he has trekked Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines and also Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Next time you're here, stop and ask him about his travels! And David in the kitchen was named the Rising Chef of the Year in a local competition this year, winning with his creative Melange of Chicken dish.
Kathleen and I took the kids on a fun-filled trip to Disney World (as well as David Sr!) and can't decide what is busier - an average day at The Reefs or trying to keep a 6 and a 4 year old from not wanting to buy everything with Mickey's face on it. David Sr. has been busy assisting the Bermuda Tourism Authority in the coup of the year by helping Bermuda secure the America's Cup in 2017 - a fantastic and exciting achievement for the island!
A few new faces joined our team this year too - Front Desk Manager Donna Alvarez, Executive Chef Douglas Sisk, and Executive Housekeeper Kamilia Black. We're very excited to have them on board.
And, just this last week, our General Manager, Nagma Walker, was awarded the Hotelier of the Year by the Bermuda Hotel Association. Awarded annually by the hoteliers of the island, she was surrounded by colleagues and family and was taken completely by surprise! It is a great honor to receive in our community of hotels and we, as a property, could not be prouder of her!
We are continuing to make upgrades to the resort to enhance your experience in Bermuda. We have completed a dramatic transformation of the bathrooms and flooring in our Poolside and Cliffside rooms. And we have added a bi-weekly Chef's Table dinner, a multi-course meal with expertly selected wines, along with being named Best Brunch in Bermuda again. We were honored to be recognized once again as one of the best resorts in Bermuda, Bahamas and the Caribbean by both Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast magazines so thank you for continuing to support us with your votes.
Finally, in remembering our beloved bartender, Fonte Davis, who passed away so unexpectedly in February, we ask that you keep his family in your thoughts over the holidays - he is sorely missed and always in our hearts. On behalf of everyone here at The Reefs, we wish you and your family a joyous holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the new year.
